I seldom struggle with in person conversation, but fall apart when trying to write a thank you note to a friend. My written correspondence comes off formal and cold. ChatGPT has helped me incorporate specific information and tone into a message when my mind has gone blank.

Scripts make a good jump-off point. Sure, ChatGPT’s texts lack a bit of warmth but after it’s done the legwork, the user could easily tweak it.

Some of the messages sound manipulating, I think if you are stuck for what to say you can look at the prompt responses but then draft something that is more personal to your relationship with your friend. I compare AI to an over-enthusiastic intern who blurts out ideas that you need to filter and refine.

The AI suggestions are not bad. They are worded clearly and bring the message across. They also use a structure I would likely use as well. But overall, still, the AI construed texts which serve the purpose to forge a connection do not convince me. Upon reflection I perceive these texts as a bit soulless, because they sound very general, not personal and thus vague. I would incorporate elements like „Last time we have seen each other was …“ „How have you been doing on project xyz“. These references are more personal and concrete.

Your thoughts are totally valid! My hope is that by seeing AI-generated examples of messages, that it will invite personalization unique to the relationship.
